*Plaza Espana

My time here has continued to fly by. This past weekend I went to Sevilla and Cordoba with ~50 other kids from my group. Sevilla is a gorgeous city (I need a larger vocabulary!). Following the trend, it is a city full of character bestowed by its long history and occupation by Arabs, Jews and Christians. It held the World's Fair in 1929 and the Ibero-American Fair in 1992, leaving many beautiful things in its wake. There are buildings built by each of the countries represented in 1929 and a large park, that actually has grass! It was filled with Spanish families and couples out enjoying the warmer weather. We also visited the old palace, which is still used when the royal family visits the city today, and the Cathedral, which is the 3rd largest in the world.

Another object of pride of the Sevillans is the grand Plaza de Espana. You have maybe seen it, in Star Wars that is. George Lucas loved the sight so much that he made the Plaza Queen Amadala's palace. It truly is worth it though. There are colorful benches representing many of the cities in Spain all around the building. Every square inch of these buildings seems to be decorated in order to awe and impress. Needless to say, the goal was met.

In Cordoba we visited the world's largest Mezquita, now a Catholic church and tourist attraction. That seems to be a common fate of the remnants of the Muslims.

All in all, the weekend was a rapid blur of activity, but I loved almost every minutes of it.
